Dear [member_wildcard_31783],
As we embark on a new academic quarter, I am pleased to report another exciting and successful year at the UC Davis College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. Take a look at just a few of the initiatives we have underway that are advancing the quality of life locally and globally:
 |
• |
We accepted one of our largest freshman classes (1,011 students) this fall and are providing each student with a first-class education. |
 |
• |
Faculty are combining disciplines to solve problems in new ways, including applying mathematical models to understand how invasive species spread into new territories. |
 |
• |
Nutrition research and outreach programs are providing vital nutrients to the world’s most at-risk children, helping them get a solid start on life. |
 |
• |
We are partnering with the fresh food industry to facilitate research that will help keep our food supplies safe and plentiful. |
 |
• |
Our new, LEED Platinum-certified winery, brewery, and food science laboratory will help many industries develop and test new sustainable practices. (The grand opening is January 28!) |
This is just a small glimpse of the ways in which the college is making an impact on your life and throughout the world. Our college is an international powerhouse, and cited as No. 1 in the U.S. in agriculture, agricultural sciences, food science and technology, plant and animal science, environment/ecology, and soil science. The work we do here drives innovations and strengthens the university’s position as a global leader for positive change.
I hope you will consider investing in our students, our faculty, our partnerships, and our collective work [member_wildcard_31787] this year. Your gift helps make our world healthier, safer and more sustainable.
Please make your gift today.
Sincerely,
Neal Van Alfen, Ph.D. ’72
